Support and FAQ – Advice and answers

Here you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our Batik creations, decorative pareos and services. Each answer has been designed to guide and reassure you.

Handcrafted Batik & Our know-how

What is Batik?

Batik is an ancestral textile art originating in Indonesia, which involves applying wax to fabric to create patterns, then dyeing the fabric. The wax protects certain areas of the fabric, enabling the creation of precise, colorful designs. Each piece is made by hand, making each creation unique and highlighting a traditional know-how handed down for generations.

At The Batik Store, we fuse traditional Javanese craftsmanship with our contemporary approach: we adapt patterns, colors and aesthetics for the modern world, while evolving traditional Batik into a contemporary and original artistic creation.

What makes The Batik Store's Batik creations unique?

Our creations are entirely handmade using the traditional Javanese Batik technique, enriched by over 30 years of research, experimentation and know-how. Each piece is the fruit of a long artisanal process, combining precision of gesture, high aesthetic standards and contemporary design. No creation is industrially produced, which guarantees the authenticity and uniqueness of each Batik.

How long does it take to create a Batik design?

Batik can take several hours or even days to complete, depending on the complexity of the design and the number of dyeing steps involved. Then there’s the design phase, drawing the pattern, applying the wax, coloring and finishing. This time-consuming process is essential to achieve the depth of color and final quality of our pieces.

Do you use traditional or modern techniques?

We work at the crossroads of both worlds. The Batik techniques we use are deeply traditional – hot wax drawing, dip dyeing, successive layering – but they are integrated into a contemporary creative approach, particularly in terms of design and certain preparation methods we have developed in-house.

Are your Batiks handmade from start to finish?

Yes, all the essential stages of creation are carried out by hand by our team, from the design concept to the final finishing touches. This artisanal approach guarantees not only exceptional quality, but also a soul and uniqueness not found in mechanized production.

Creations & their uses

(fashion & decoration)

What do you use your Batik creations for?

Our Batiks are designed to be versatile. They can be worn as pareos, sarongs, tunics or fashion accessories, but they also integrate perfectly as decorative pieces to sublimate an interior, a wall or a living space. Each creation is designed to combine functionality and aesthetics.

Can Batik pareos be used in everyday life?

Yes, absolutely. Our creations are light, comfortable and resistant, suitable for everyday use or vacation. Their quality craftsmanship and meticulous finish make them easy to handle, while preserving their color and texture.

How can Batik be incorporated into interior design?

Batik can be hung as a wall tapestry, used as a sofa throw or draped over furniture to add a colorful, handcrafted touch. Its rich patterns and deep colors bring warmth and character to any space.

Are your creations limited to a specific use or can they be customized for decoration?

We offer great freedom of use: each creation can be worn or displayed as desired. What’s more, it’s possible to order bespoke designs or ones adapted to specific spaces, to create a perfect harmony between textile art and the decorative environment.

Care, washing & storage

How do I wash a Batik without damaging the colors?

We recommend machine-washing at 40°C on a gentle cycle, or hand-washing with a mild soap. Colors are optimally fixed, ensuring that they remain vibrant even after several washes.

Can I use the tumble dryer for my Batik creations?

It’s best to avoid the tumble dryer. Let your Batiks air-dry, preferably in the shade, to preserve the fibers and colorfastness over the long term.

Do the colors of Batiks resist light and time?

Yes. Thanks to a controlled dyeing process and high-quality pigments, our creations retain their brilliance for many years when properly cared for, without fading or losing their intensity.

How can I guarantee the durability of my Batik?

To prolong the life of your creation, avoid excessive rubbing and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Follow washing and drying instructions, and handle each piece with care, like a unique piece of handcrafted art.

Unique pieces, limited series

& special orders

Do you offer limited edition or one-off Batik creations?

Yes, all our creations are designed with quality and authenticity in mind. Some pieces are produced in very limited series to guarantee their exclusivity and artistic value, making each Batik a unique object.

Can I order a customized Batik?

Our creations are entirely handmade using the traditional Javanese Batik technique, enriched by over 25 years of research, experimentation and know-how. Each piece is the fruit of a long artisanal process, combining precision of gesture, high aesthetic standards and contemporary design. No creation is industrially produced, which guarantees the authenticity and uniqueness of each Batik.

What are the differences between a one-off and a limited series?

A one-of-a-kind piece is made in a single edition and will never be reproduced. Even in a limited series, each Batik is the result of a handcrafted process in which gestures and dye nuances vary naturally, making each one distinct and irreplaceable.

How is the price of a special order calculated?

The price of a special order depends on the complexity of the motif, the level of detail and the precision required. Even for an existing motif, or a more vague idea, a quotation is provided before production begins, to guarantee transparency and agreement on the final cost.
