Kura-Kura at a glance

Kura-kura means turtle in Javanese. Here it’s treated tribally, reduced to thick lines and flat areas — closer to a woodcut than to wildlife drawing.

A broad motif, best against tanned skin or a plain tee. Tied low it falls to the ankle; pulled up it becomes shorts for the water. Our guide to tying a men’s sarong shows both.

Light viscose, 210 x 115 cm before the tube seam, inside pocket. Hand-painted in Java.
